SPORTS DAY

The first of many to come ZCRS Sports Day, or rather, Sports Days were held on the 5th and 6th of September, 2018. While the first day at Sindh Sports Complex comprised of games like Badminton, Table Tennis, Throwball, and Futsal, the entire second day at Nazimabad Gymkhana was dedicated to cricket.

The competition was tough, and the rivalry between North and Clifton grew overwhelmingly at times. Neither of the sides were willing to give up, and strenuously competed in every match like their lives hinged on it. North came out as victorious in badminton, table tennis, and cricket whereas Clifton took the trophies when it came to throwball and futsal.

As admirable as the participants were, the spectators were equally praiseworthy and supportive. The ear-piercing hoots and screams devoted to their fellow classmates filled the space, giving the atmosphere a whole new definition of vivaciousness.

The results are as follows:

Badminton Girls: Kiran (winner), Samea (runner up)

Badminton Boys: Shahzad (winner), Mohsin (runner up)

Table Tennis Girls: Fatima (winner), Saba (runner up)

Table Tennis Boys: Hamza (winner), Noman (runner up)

Throwball: Clifton (winner), North (runner up)

Futsal: Clifton (winner), North (runner up)

Cricket Girls: North (winner), North (runner up)

Cricket Boys: Results are indeterminate due to the fact that the match was postponed.

A healthy competition is exactly what a student needs after vigorously studying day and night. This was perhaps the most prosperous event of the Students’ Week, as many of the students requested the ZCRS Student Council to organize an event such as this annually.

BEACH PARTY Sept 8th, 2K18

Sun, sea and sand are already the perfect fusion. Add in some fantastic friends, groovy tunes, and scrumptious food, and you have the perfect formula for a day to remember for eternity.

The essence of style is preparation. Therefore, if one really desires for their beach party to be a success, they’re going to have to put some forethought into it. Which is indeed what the ZCRS Student Council did, ensuring that it hit all the right notes, and stayed in people’s minds for years to come.

Students and a few faculty members assembled at the university premises (both, North and Clifton) by 9:00 A.M. as directed, and the coasters hummed to life at precisely 9:30 A.M. By the time everyone reached their destination -which was Turtle Beach- the clock had struck 10:30.

Whilst people took time to get settled in and unpack their possessions inside their respective huts, the caterers got breakfast ready, and by the time everyone was through, Halwa Puri and Chai had been served. People buzzed around the tables for another half an hour, before they dispersed for their next pursuit.

There are three types of people on the beach: One, who dance to the blasting music like there is no tomorrow, second, who consider photographs to be the most crucial part of any event, and lastly, the people who plunge into the sea and only come out when its time to go home. All of these kinds were witnessed among the Ziauddin population on the 8th of September, 2018.

Perhaps the highlights of the day were the speedboat and the jet ski, for which people patiently stood in extensive queues. It was a spinetingling experience, with the spray in your face, the breeze in your hair and the adrenaline in your blood, if you went on full throttle. However, it could’ve gotten scary for the first-timers.

Finally, lunch was served at 4:00 P.M. the distinctive Pakistani cuisine, which included Biryani and Tikka Paratha and soft drinks on the side. People were then advised to pack up once they were done and head to their respective coasters.

And that is how the day ended. With tanned skin, aching bodies, and large, satiated smiles.

Independence Day

A jubilant environment was created in the wake of August in the campus by the students in anticipation of Independence Day. The halls of Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences were adorned with decorations and students flooded the floors wearing dresses of white and green. Faculty and student rejoiced and participated actively in the range of events arranged: from the exciting speech competition to the cake cutting. A drama written by the students themselves was performed. The anchors were rousing and kept the audience captivated with their energy filled presence. Patriotic songs were sung by melodious voices of the campus and the audience joined in chorus. In the end, the best performances were awarded. This year’s celebrations were unlike others and brought a dose of fun and activities to the campus. The ceremony was ended with traditional Cake Cutting followed by yummylicious lunch.

HALF GRAD PARTY

As you step through the wooden doors to the second floor, you feel the music flow through your veins, the rhythm gently coaxing your legs to fasten your pace toward the source. The corridor buzzes with the animated chatter of the students, their worrisome creases on their foreheads now barely visible. Students scurrying around in their colorful attires, their chiming laughs filling the atmosphere, abating the usual tensed environment. This is Batch VI. This is us.

We commenced our university days precisely 2.5 years ago, and we’re thrilled to say that we have made it halfway in one piece. This called for a celebration, and if anyone knows how to party, it’s us.

A fusion of Eid Milan and Half Grad, this celebration took place on the 17th of July, 2018. The students pitched in money for the ornaments and cuisine. An hour before the party, we took the liberty to embellish the place, covering the lights with colored cellophane paper, blowing up what seemed like an infinite amount of blue, black, and white balloons, and adorning the walls with vivid hanging décor. We put up all kinds of decorations to give the place an uplifting look, instead of a bland lecture hall.

A few students managed to give an outstanding dance performance after merely two hours of practice, while the rest hollered and clapped till their hands ached. A game of mimicry kept everyone entertained.

The day ended with students sitting together in a mass, eating heartily while simultaneously, cracking jokes and chuckling jovially, and afterward, a batch picture that signified unity, harmony, and sheer bliss.

A huge shout out to the lads of DPT Batch VI, for arranging and managing an unforgettable event with such grace and character.
