ADDRESSING NEEDS OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENT’S MENTAL HEALTH

International webinar was held on the occasion of the World Occupational Therapy Day to address the emerging mental health needs of children and adolescents on 4th November’2021.

SPEAKER: Dr. Hassan I. Sarsak who is the PhD ,OT Doctorate degree in Rehabilitation sciences with a concentration in occupational therapy (OT) from the University of Pittsburg USA associate editor in World Federation Occupational Therapist bulletin, Author of comprehensive dictionary in Occupational Therapy.

The webinar objectives were to raise awareness of the mental health issues that are frequently reported in children and adolescents. In the form of research papers, the speaker emphasized the necessity of evidence-based practice in order to identify the variables that contribute to mental health disorders. The speaker also discussed relaxation methods like Tai Chai, Milieu technique, Reminiscence therapy, and other strategies.

Entrance Test 2021-22 ZCRS-Sukkur Campus

After the registrations in Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, Ziauddin University, Ziauddin
College of Rehabilitation Sciences – Sukkur campus has conducted the entrance exam, to test
the skills of candidates for undergraduate program of 2021-2022 on Thursday, 11th of
November 2021. Faculty of ZCRS – Sukkur campus, examination representative and other team
members worked together as a team to make the event successful following all the SOP’s.

A successful webinar aimed at raising awareness about Wound Management in Physical Therapy via different Physical Therapy related techniques.

The speaker M. Shahrukh (Assistant Professor, ZCRS) have specialty regarding Integumentary Rehabilitation from past 5 years, he worked on Evidence based practice, indulging researches on his practice, through this webinar he initiates the step of awareness in wound management via Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation around Rehabilitation community of Pakistan. He informed about the prevalence of Burns in Karachi and Pressure ulcers also different types of wound and its Physical Therapy management via manual therapy and Electro physical Agents.

Reputable NGOs and organizations such as  Karachi Vocational Training Centre, Markaz E Umeed For Amazing Children, Dewa Institute For Special And Inclusive Education took  active part along with their students  brought amazing art n craft and vocational products for display and auction

This gave them a platform to exhibit their work and work towards financial independence with the goal of empowerment and enablement. There were horticulture therapy stalls by DOT students for psycho-social outlet.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY IN FORENSIC PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION

International webinar was held on the occasion of the World Occupational Therapy Day to highlight the role of occupational therapy in the Forensic Psychiatric Rehabilitation in collaboration with the Scottish Government’s Global Citizenship on 5th November’2021.

SPEAKER: DR KHURRAM KHAN and his team, consultant Forensic Psychiatrist at The State Hospital Carstairs NHS Scotland, United Kingdom.

The objective of this webinar was to educate students about the role of occupational therapists in forensic psychiatric rehabilitation. Dr. Khurram talked about strategies, intervention, risk factor assessment and protocols of patients. While Hannah Connor, Chelsea Burnside and Monique Burgess (Occupational Therapists) presented a brief overview of occupational therapy process at forensic rehabilitation to promote occupational performance and psychosocial reintegration. More over the disposition site for discharge was also discussed that highlighted the stepdown rehabilitation for impactful reintegration in society.

Careers in Rehabilitation Sciences

An interactive session on Careers in Rehabilitation sciences was conducted on 6th October 2021 at Ziauddin University. The session was hosted by Ms. Fatima Hamza (Sr. lecturer, DPT coordinator Link Road) and the speakers were Ms. Neelam Zehra (VP/HOD Occupational Therapy Consultant Occupational Therapist Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Ziauddin University Vice-President Finance Pakistan Occupational Therapy Association Editor Pakistan Journal of Rehabilitation, Member of Who Rehab Development Program Member of World Federation of Occupational Therapy) Dr Amna Aamir Khan (Associate Professor, Postgraduate Program Coordinator Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Ziauddin University Editor, Pakistan Journal of Rehabilitation) and Ms. Qurat ul Ain Adnan (Head of Department, Assistant Professor, QEC Coordinator Physical Education, Health and Sports Sciences Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Ziauddin University) The main aim of the session was to discuss the importance of  rehabilitation sciences in modern medical practices and to guide the students who want to opt for rehabilitation sciences as career. The speakers very proficiently highlighted the career opportunities which can be grabbed and the post-graduation choices which are available in the field of rehabilitation. Ms. Neelam gave an insight of the filed with respect to occupational therapy, Dr. Amna Amir khan explained the rehabilitation sciences in regard to physical therapy furthermore she updated regarding undergraduate and postgraduate programs in physical therapy. Ms. Qurat ul Ain Adnan enlightened the audience with the role of Physical Education Health and sports sciences. The panel also summarized the process of admission in Ziauddin college of Rehabilitation sciences and the valuable contribution of ZCRS to the field.

World Occupational Therapy Day was celebrated by the Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Department of Occupational therapy dated 27th October 2021. The theme for this year was Belong Be You that promotes the concept of diversity and inclusion. Poster presentation by students on topics such as ageing, Universal design, assistive technology, ergonomics, drug rehabilitation and adolescent health was conducted to promote niche of profession in rehabilitation. Occupational performance activities were held on account of the day to depict the effectiveness of occupational therapy for functional performance in context with physical, mental and social health. The students from ZCRS participated actively and faculty encouraged the innovative and impressive ideas, celebration was followed by cake cutting ceremony.

A successful webinar aimed at raising awareness about Occupational Therapy; An emerging profession by experts in the field. 

The speakers Ms Neelum Zehra, Ms Faitima Khan and Ms. Sobia Haroon and the moderator Ms. Wania Noor guided students on what steps to take to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy. It also highlighted growth opportunities at every step for the students enrolling in Doctor of Occupational Therapy (DOT) and other programs at ZCRS. It explored the paradigm from paediatric health, to adult rehab, to geriatric, to psychiatry– focusing on the diverse work prospects of Occupational Therapy.
